ABOUT THIS EVENT

In 'Wolf Children', we follow Hana, a young mother raising her two half-wolf children straddling the line between human life and nature's calling. Director Mamoru Hosoda weaves a tender and heart-wrenching coming-of-age story about love, loss, and letting go, filled with magic from the everyday. This intimate animated classic begins gently but lingers long after its conclusion. This film may very well be the finest animated portrayal of a single mother. When university student Hana falls in love with a mysterious young man, she discovers he is the last of his kind: a wolf who can transform into a human and vice versa. Together, they start a beautiful family, until Hana suddenly finds herself alone with their two wolf children. Yuki is headstrong and curious, while Ame is quieter and more cautious. Both are torn between the call of nature and human existence. Hana protects her children at all costs, even moving deep into the Japanese countryside. Their story is one that even wolves would cry over. Although Yuki, the narrator, fears she might be telling a simple fairy tale, director Mamoru Hosoda has created a deeply human and realistic film (okay, aside from the transforming wolves). Inspired by his own childhood and his mother, who raised him alone, Hosoda—known for modern anime classics like 'The Girl Who Leapt Through Time', 'Summer Wars', 'Mirai', and 'Belle'—tells this tale with patience and a sense of wonder for the magic of everyday life. Despite its fantastical elements, 'Wolf Children' feels wonderfully authentic. Love, nature, coming-of-age, grief, and the painful yet necessary art of letting go are seamlessly intertwined in this rich story about mothers, children, and discovering who you want to be along the way.
