ABOUT THIS EVENT

In the film 'The Vegan Farmer', acclaimed photographer and documentary maker Kadir van Lohuizen follows Limburg poultry farmer Ruud Zanders as he transitions from large-scale poultry operations to a more sustainable, smaller-scale business after a bankruptcy. Post-screening, there will be a Q&A session with Ruud Zanders himself. This innovative concept, named Kipster, is gaining international acclaim and is on the brink of a worldwide breakthrough. However, Ruud grapples with his own beliefs about the necessity of raising animals for food, leading him to largely abstain from meat, dairy, and eggs in his diet. Is animal husbandry essential in our global food system? Kadir diligently captures the internal conflict between ideals and reality. Does creating the best possible barn for animal welfare and circularity truly contribute positively, or does it merely perpetuate the existing system? What are the thoughts of activist George Monbiot and scientist Imke de Boer on Ruud’s journey? And where do you stand on this issue? The film is commissioned by The Food Revolution Foundation, with support from the Barth-Misset Fund. This tour is also made possible by the Province of Limburg, Triodos Foundation, and Foundation Symbio.
