Dive into the world of competitive weightlifting at the Red Tulip Film Festival!

ABOUT THIS EVENT

This program is part of the Red Tulip Festival, the only annual Turkish film festival in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Eindhoven, showcasing the very best of contemporary Turkish cinema. Organized by the Turkish Professionals Network Eindhoven (TPN-E), the Eindhoven edition features the film ATLET. ATLET takes you into the tough, unforgiving world of competitive weightlifting through the eyes of a young woman on the brink of her first international breakthrough. Raised in poverty but driven by unwavering discipline, she trains with a determination that challenges the status quo. As she nears the championship stage, the glossy facade of elite sport begins to shatter. The film offers a stark, intimate portrait of a patriarchal system, where women's bodies are scrutinized and commodified. The protagonist faces a near-impossible choice between a slim chance at success and her own ethical values, confronting the hidden machinery of an industry demanding obedience at the expense of dignity. With its raw realism and bold perspective, ATLET reveals the moral fractures behind the medals—a tale of resistance, self-respect, and the courage to reclaim identity in a world that seeks to define it.
