Biotopia: A Dance Exploration of Space

In Biotopia, we follow five space travelers who are compelled to leave Earth in search of a safe haven for humanity. Their ultimate destination is Planet Nine, a theoretical planet beyond our solar system. Confined within their new habitat in space, they must rely on each other completely. Personal freedoms give way to enforced togetherness, and individuality shifts towards the collective's needs. What begins as a shared mission slowly transforms into a psychological test where relationships evolve into complexity: love turns into jealousy, security morphs into annoyance. When their probe collides with flying space debris, chaos erupts. Biotopia is a dynamic dance performance featuring five dancers amidst a futuristic backdrop, embodying all physical aspects of enforced close quarters through soft, poetic interactions to explosive partnering. *Excluding refreshments.* ABOUT SHIFFT SHIFFT is the dance company founded by choreographer Jasper van Luijk in 2016. Together with dramaturg Isabel Meloen, they explore pressing contemporary themes. Engaging in rich artistic exchanges with dancers and artists from various disciplines, their work emerges. SHIFFT connects with audiences both in theaters and unique venues, aiming to translate significant societal themes into physical movements, allowing every individual to relate through their senses and feel grounded in their bodies.
