The Royal Ballet Presents: Manon

Torn between her yearning for a life of luxury and her dedication to her true love Des Grieux, the impulsive and capricious Manon pays the ultimate price. In the shadowy underbelly of 18th-century Paris, money reigns supreme, and nothing is sacred, even love, if the price is right. Born and raised in this hedonistic world, Manon finds herself conflicted when she falls for the devoted student Des Grieux, who offers her the hope of a respectable life. However, the allure of Parisian high society remains enticing... This iconic 1974 adaptation by Kenneth MacMillan of Abbé Prévost's novel provides a nuanced insight into human psychology and a fearless portrayal of moral decay in Manon's Paris, brought to life through the music of Jules Massenet and the designs of Nicholas Georgiadis.
