A Playful Cinematic Experience for Kids
ABOUT THIS EVENT
Children aged 2 to 6 will experience their first trip to the cinema in our cozy screening room. On Sunday mornings, toddlers and preschoolers join the Taartrovers Cinemini, a unique program where they get to watch films and play in a stunning light landscape.
During Taartrovers Cinemini, we showcase beautiful, sweet, exciting, abstract, narrative, and sometimes challenging short films specifically designed for toddlers and preschoolers. After the screenings, participants play together in a light landscape, composed of various installations that allow children to discover how light can create stories through playful exploration. They investigate form, projection, light, shadow, stories, movement, and color. How do shadows form? Where do images come from, how do shapes become bigger or smaller, and how do shapes disappear? And what stories can they see in the shapes? While shadows may seem ordinary to adults, to children, it might just be magic that turns adults into tall giants.
PROGRAM
We take a look from the other side and see the world upside down, different than usual.
"Upside Down" is a light-hearted but very funny film program that allows you to marvel and laugh at the same time. One moment we are in the air, the next we are under the ground.
SALLY
Luna Maurer, Roel Wouters, 2005
Netherlands
2 minutes
We see one big marble and many small ones in a bright white space. The marbles move from left to right, from front to back. Suddenly, they jump to the right wall, to the ceiling, and back down. Are these just ordinary marbles, or something else? Why do they seemingly disregard the laws of gravity? Are we looking from below, or from above?
ANDERSLAND
An Vrombaut, 2022
Belgium
7 minutes
And what happens when you’re different from the rest? Is a giraffe with a long neck different? Is that weird? Laugh at the fantastic figures, the quirky movements, but especially the crazy sounds in Andersland.
UPSIDEDOWN
Youri Tcherenkov, 1995
France
8 minutes
In the air, we fly with the birds. We travel with them to distant lands in a beautifully illustrated animation. But how do you know where you are without references, in the empty sky? A humorous short animation that turns the world upside down.
THE PARSNIP
Piret Sigus and Silja Saarepuu, 2022
Estonia
7 minutes
Dig along and go underground with mouse, mole, and all the other animals that live at the roots of the parsnip. This way, you can see what really happened while the farmer was busy growing vegetables.
UNDERGROUND
Elise Auffray, 2014
France
2.5 minutes
In a short documentary, we explore the ground itself. Fast forward, we experience what happens when you compost, living for a moment among the worms that feast on all the scraps. This can only happen in film!
