ABOUT THIS EVENT
Set in New York 1969, this engaging performance immerses the audience in a vibrant bar filled with music and color, where Drag Queens and activists, including the iconic Marsha P. Johnson, battle for their existence. This pivotal scene foreshadows the Stonewall Riots, a moment that ignited a global struggle for LGBTQ+ rights. Now, more than fifty years later, queer rights face new challenges. Led by Marvan, a group of queer activists aims to seize World Pride 2026 to raise awareness of the rising bullying and violence against the queer community. However, the pacifistic Marvan feels the pressure from the group to protect their freedom at all costs. How far will they go to fight for their rights? Raymi Sambo reflects on the rising violence against queer individuals in the Netherlands, hoping to ignite a new Stonewall moment through this play. This performance is part of a series focusing on controversial black women from history, following 'Who’s Afraid of Sylvana' last season, with future performances inspired by figures like Winnie Mandela (2027) and Meghan Markle (2028).
