Experience a heartfelt journey through nostalgia and rediscovery with Maryam Touzani's poignant film.
OVER DIT EVENEMENT
Calle Malaga is a touching new film by Maryam Touzani (The Blue Caftan), exploring themes of nostalgia, security, and self-discovery in later life. It presents a loving portrait of a woman who refuses to be diminished.
74-year-old Maria (Carmen Maura) enjoys a quiet life within the close-knit Spanish community of Tangier, a vibrant Moroccan coastal town. Her world is shaken when her daughter Clara (Marta Etura) arrives from Madrid to sell the apartment that Maria calls home. Determined to stand her ground, Maria fights to keep her house and memories alive. In the process, she unexpectedly discovers love once again.
Calle Malaga won the Audience Award at the Venice Film Festival. Actress Carmen Maura is renowned as the muse of Pedro Almodóvar and featured in many of his early films. As Deadline states, the film is 'a lovely ode to growing old but not giving in to age, to living life as it is meant to be lived – on your own terms.'
THROUGH HER LENS
Through Her Lens is an international film night focusing on female perspectives. Everyone is welcome, no membership required. We showcase films made by women or told from their viewpoints, followed by opportunities for meeting and discussion.
This series is organized in collaboration with Thryves, bringing entrepreneurs together who believe that how we connect is just as important as what we build. Through shared experiences, moments, and spaces, we explore what it means to belong, find meaning, and grow.
