Waiting for Marsha

Set in New York 1969, in a bar alive with color, music, and freedom, drag queens and activists—including the iconic Marsha P. Johnson—fight for their existence. This marks the beginning of the Stonewall riots, the pivotal moment when the queer community worldwide began its fight for equal rights. Over fifty years later, queer rights are once again under threat. In 'Waiting for Marsha,' a group of queer activists, led by Marvan, aim to hijack the World Pride 2026 to draw attention to the rising bullying and violence against queer individuals. The pacifist Marvan feels the intense pressure from their group not to yield to the looming threats. Their freedom must be protected at all costs, but how far should they go? Raymi Sambo expresses his concerns over the growing violence against queer individuals in the Netherlands, hoping for a new Stonewall moment. Perhaps this performance will ignite that fire. This performance is part of a series exploring controversial Black women in history, following a previous show titled 'Who’s Afraid of Sylvana.'
