ABOUT THIS EVENT

Autism and mental health issues are closely intertwined. How does this connection manifest, and what strategies can we utilize to alleviate suffering? This thematic afternoon will feature speakers, films, and music to explore these crucial topics. Among young people, 44% of those who experience suicidal thoughts have been diagnosed with autism. While not everyone with autism wishes to end their life, many do experience significant distress, making it essential to openly address these issues. Anke has authored the book 'I Really Want to Die' inspired by the diaries of Cathelijn, whose story is also captured in a short film that will be screened during the event. Additionally, Liza, Dolinda, and David will share their personal experiences living with autism. The prevalence of autism is 3 to 4 times higher in the Eindhoven region compared to the rest of the Netherlands, influenced significantly by local entities like Philips and Natlab. Therefore, it's poignant that we convene at this location to discuss these themes on June 12th. This presentation will be conducted in Dutch and includes refreshments.
